Profile of Programmer - Win 7 WMC User
« on: September 05, 2009, 12:21:49 PM »
Hello,

I am a .NET developer/programmer by day. By night I learn and play with computers.

I have been using a computer one way or another for about 25 years.

My current job has me developing a proprietary mechanical engineering application for fan design. I use all C# in this application(of course I can do other languages but C# is the choice for .NET and which I am most proficient in). I also develop against SQL Server 2005 / 2008 databases.

My primary toolkit is VS 2008 Pro, SVN Visual, SQL Server Management Studio and a few little things like Reflector. I am also a MSDN Premium member so I ahave all the M$ toys.

I use WMC in Win7 but Vista WMC or WMC 2005 is only a virtual machine away. I have been using MediaBrowser but they are talking closed source/selling subscription. To each their own but I prefer to share my extra-curricular activities (since I already have a day job). Hopefully I can lend a hand to this project in whatever capacity needed.

Thanks
Ron - CA

Oooh, a professional programmer - don't criticise any of our code, most of us are only amateurs.

Translucent is the lead dev so he will probably jump in, what usually happens is new guys download the trunk, compiles, has a play, creates a patch for something and posts it in this forum for a quick check to ensure the person knows his stuff. Usually asking loads of questions along the way :)

Have a look at our issues list http://code.google.com/p/open-media-library/issues/list

Welcome to OML.

I think if MB begins to cost, it will bring  many of their users to OML.  Great to see some devs coming this way too.

Good luck, and I hope to see you up to speed and active in the forum and dev.

@rk1200

Nice to meet you.  Feel free to grab an "issue" from the google-code page and take a crack at it.  For some background on OML:  We are a very relaxed group, developers have come and gone and some may return.  This being the case our codebase is very loose and often times scattered.  We tend to develop in spurts as time allows so its goes quiet for a bit and then picks back up for a bit. This is the reason to road from .3 to .4 took so long.  If you like the code, have the chops, and can stand the rest of us I'm sure we'd love you have you on the team.  While I am listed as the lead developer (primarily because I basically started this whole crazy thing given some rough code from a previous developer) we all share in the ideas, concepts, direction and fun.  I do my best to direct and guide where we go but each member of the team has at times decided to go their own way and that has more often then not taken the code to a better place.  This is good for all of us, so don't be concerned about stepping on toes when it comes to implementing something wonderful.  I look forward to seeing what you can offer and if you feel this is the right place for you.
