Import into folder
« on: October 30, 2009, 06:01:30 AM »
Can we have the option to perform an Import into a folder, instead of importing to the Root? Another useful feature would be to able to select the Media type as well.

e.g.

ROOT
|-TV Shows (tv folder type)
   |- Heroes (tv folder type)
      |- Season 1 (tv folder type)

Import folder X (containing all the episodes) into Season 1.
Select media type, TV episodes.
Import. Done.

Currently, we have to import the media.
Move them into the folder.
Manually change media type for each episodes.

That's a lot of work, when doing it for > 1000 files.

Work around (at the moment)
---
Change default media type to tv episodes.
Import from folder.
Move episodes into season folder.

Downside:
One day we might forget, and whoops, wrong media type in the database.

Have you tried draging and dropping titles from Windows Explorer straight into the meda tree view in the Editor? It does a pretty good job of setting the titles types etc.

Try dragging your 'TV Shows' folder in and see if it works.

Drag and drop worked.
I created

ROOT
|-TV Shows (tv folder type)
   |- Heroes (tv folder type)
      |- Season 1 (tv folder type)

Then drag and drop the files into Season 1.

DBEditor automatically generate the thumbnail for its cover.
Is this expected for TV Shows?

The drag and drop process will create all the folders for you. You should be able to drag and drop the TV Shows folder straight in.

Is there any naming convention for the TV episodes?

I am using,

Heroes - 1x001.mkv
Heroes - 1x002.mkv
Heroes - 1x003.mkv
Heroes - 1x004.mkv

OML doesn't seem to recognize the season/episode numbering,
thus, I have to manually set the Season and Episode number
after the drag n drop.

Maybe we can have a field in Preferences, to specify the custom name format for TV shows?

I am not sure what all the different naming conventions are that OML recognises, but the most common naming convention I have seen elsewhere would be something like:

Heros S01E01 etc.

Edit:  The S represents Season/Series number, and the E represents the episode number - with numbers in both sections starting at 01

I can write a simple program to rename all my files to follow the convention.
To do that, I need to know what is being "recognized" in OML first.

I found this post under 3rd party addon, St. Sana (the one file scanner...)

http://www.ornskov.dk/forum/index.php?topic=1398.msg9899#msg9899

Is this still valid?

I think I will rename all my files to be, Heroes - 1x01.mkv.
That seems to be acceptable from that post ;)

Translucent will have to chime in with what is recognised.  Have a look here for more info on the scanner engin.

:D :D :D , you beat me to it.  Name a couple that way, drag and drop them and see if they are recognised.  If so, you should be able to write your code to rename them if necessary.
