from 0.3b to 0.4.2 - getting data back in ?
« on: December 16, 2009, 04:17:02 PM »
Hi chaps,

I have been running 0.3b for quite a while, and am moving to win 7, and the new 0.4.2.1 build of OML.

I am having some trouble getting 0.4.2.1 running with all my collection imported. I've searched and looked around the forum, but have not found anything that can assist me as of yet.

If i import using the OML.xml method, i get the metadata but no covers or backdrops.

If i use the scan folders for DVD i get no metadata, but movie names and covers - No backdrops.

What is the process for moving from the 3b version to the 0.4.2.1 and getting ALL the data over?

Cheers,

I guess the question was a tricky one. No one has any input for me on this?

On another note i have been testing how to back up the 0.4.2.1 version with the backup tool. This appears to work (only if i use the default location). However, it does not appear to function properly when trying to restore from a backup file.

A little help or feedback with either of these problems would be nice.

Ya, backup is currently unreliable. I spent a bit of time working on the backup/restore process for the installer the other day and ended up rewriting it to use SQL-DMO instead of generating a SQL script. This process has been a lot more stable (and provides status and verification). I'll probably roll this into the editor when I finish.

I'm not sure about your issue with imports. Mike is in the process of refactoring things and the XML importer is currently stubbed. Can you post your import log? That might give us an idea what is going on.

Hi msbob,

Thanks for the info, good to know that it is the backup process and not just me that is the problem.

I've given up trying to sort out a move from 3.x to 4.x, so now i have just moved the folder structure over to Win7 x64.
The folder structure includes the xml's, iso file, jpeg for cover art and the fan art folder in the movie folder. Is there a way of importing all this at once, or is it a matter of importing the using the xml file and then manually adding the cover art and fan art?

If this is the case, so be it. But will the future (working backup) support the restoration of all of this info so i dont have to go round and add all the cover art and fan art again?

Will future versions of the DBEditor support the import of all the information at once, so i dont have to add the cover art, fan art manually after i have used the oml.xml import?

Yeah, the backup only working to the default location is due to file permissions, the SQL Server can only write to certain locations. Not sure if MSBobs future changes gets around this or not.

In the future we indend to have two methods-

1 - A backup and restore function which backups the database itself.

2 - OML.XML import.

Both should capture all information and images associated with movies and do what you require. There has been a few issues with the OML.XML import feature - it has been a bit negelected since we moved to an SQL database, I'm currently lookng at this and bringing it up to date.

Yes i had trouble in this case also. There is still a deficit in that software with the reimport of old data.
Hope there will be a solution soon.
